Buehl Edmond Ponsler, 91, of Twin Lakes Village, Monticello died Friday, January 24, 2003 at his residence.
He was born at Cicero on June 17, 1911 to Clarence and Leota Pearl (Pickard) Ponsler. His marriage was to Rachel Roena Austin. She died in April 1978.
He retired from Lee Way Motor Freight in 1969, where he had been a driver for more than 20 years. He bad also worked for the railroad and Guidelamp in Anderson. At the age of 16, he helped build the road from Ind. 421 and 18 into Frankfort.
He attended the Christian Church in Cicero.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 886 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
He and a friend built a 1927 Ford racecar for the Indianapolis 500. He was the owner of an old Indian motorcycle and two micro-midget racecars. He enjoyed fishing and racing motorcycles and cars.
Survivors include daughters Leota Mae (Robert) Roush of Monon, Susan Wagner of McAlester, Okla., and Mary Jane (Greg) Wallace of Allen, Texas; sons Clarence R. Ponsler of Albers, Ill., and Buehl W. (Marian) Ponsler, Jr. of Monticello; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Brothers, Robert Ponsler, Billy Ponsler and Delbert Ponsler; and a son, Robert Lee Ponsler are deceased.
A graveside service was Tuesday at Cicero Cemetery at Cicero with Rev. Bruce Hurley officiating. Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home was in charge.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Deacons Fund in Monticello.
