Warren Henry 'Jack' Oilar, 91, of Brookston died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at home [sic] Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born near Battle Ground on September 7, 1911, to Asa Eugene "Doc" and Daisy May Ward Oilar. He married Margaret L. Scrugg in Lafayette on January 3, 1940. She is a retired hairdresser. She survives.
He attended Battle Ground and Klondike schools. He was in the first freshman class at Klondike High School.
He farmed in White and Montgomery counties from 1940-61. He worked at the AMOCO (Standard Oil) Fertilizer plant in Chalmers for 12 years and retired in 1975.
He lived in Brookston since 1987.
He was a member of the Brookston Federated Church.
He was a 4-H Leader for several years in Chalmers. He was an avid euchre player and an IU fan. Surviving are 10 grandchildren whom he loved telling of his memories and relating stories such as taking his Mom in horse and buggy to Lafayette for groceries along a trail by the old Canal and riding the Trolly from Battle Ground to Lafayette.
Other survivors include daughters, Joyce (companion Dwayne Clark) Guard of Crawfordsville and Janet (Joel) Hall of Lafayette; son, Jack R. (Sharon) Oilar of Chalmers a brother Eugene "Jiggs" (Fern) Oilar of Chalmers; sisters Pauline Jewett of New Milford, Conn., and Bessie Hague of Delphi; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and two great-great-grand children [sic]. Six sisters and a brother are deceased.
Funeral services were Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.
Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
