Benny R. Nugent

Benny Robert Nugent, 78, a resident of the Indiana Veterans Home, died Thursday, September 20, 2001, at his the [sic] home. He had been a resident there since June 22, 2000.

He was born in Lafayette on December 10, 1922 to Jerry and Ruth I. Pierce Nugent.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during WWII as a Seaman First Class from Oct. 27, 1942 to Dec. 22, 1945, in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign.

He was a heavy machine operator with the Tippecanoe County Highway and retired in 1984.

He was a member of VFW Post 1154 of Lafayette and West Lafayette American Legion Post 492.

He is survived by three sons, Steve (Patty) Treece of Port Saint Lucie, FL, Jeffery (Mary) Nugent of Paragon and Robert Wayne Nugent of West Lafayette; Five daughters, Christina Brooks of Attica, Jacqueline (Delton) Keener of Logansport, Barbara (Gary) Gray of West Lafayette. LaDonna (Dennis) Metz of Cross City, FL, and Karen Nugent of West Lafayette; two sisters, Betty Jessie of Lafayette and Geneva Nugent of West Lafayette; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Two sons, a daughter, two grandchildren, a brother Harold Nugent, and a sister Thelma German, are deceased.

Funeral Services were Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Pastor Throster B. Thordarson officiating.

Burial with military rites by West Lafayette American Legion Post 492 was at Liberty Chapel Cemetery.
