William R. Nicolas, 71, Walkerton, the brother of a Buffalo resident died Wednesday, Aug. 19, at his residence after a sudden illness.

He was born April 11, 1927, to William J. and Lydia Shedrow Nicolas, in Jasper County.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and was retired from the service.

He was a former correctional officer at the Medaryville Youth Camp.

He had lived for 21 years in the Walkerton area coming from Medaryville.

He was a member of the Knox VFW and the Knox American Legion.

He is survived by his companion of 21 years, Jennette Wobith of North Judson; two sisters, Margaret Van Buskirk, Medaryville; and Marcella Nielsen of Buffalo; a brother, Dennis of Culver and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel with Rev. Anthony Spanley officiating.

Burial was in Highland Cemetery, North Judson.
