Russell J. Morehouse, 89, formerly of R.2, Brookston, died Jan. 4, in St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Delphi. He had been a patient there since Nov. 2, 1992.
He was born Sept. 22, 1903, to Levi J. and Clara Gosma Morehouse, in Badger Grove Township. He was married Dec. 23, 1924, to Edna May Chilton, who died May 18, 1983.
Before moving to St. Elizabeth Healthcare, he had lived at Lafayette Healthcare since Oct. 1991 and before that, had lived at Heritage Healthcare in West Lafayette since Nov. 1990.
He graduated from Brookston High School in 1921 and attended Ball State University. In 1984, he retired from farming in Badger Grove. He owned three Hoosier Homestead farms.
He was a member of Badger Grove Baptist Church and was a former Sunday School teacher, church superintendent and was an honorary deacon of the church.
He was a member of Octagon Masonic Lodge No. 511, where he was past master and had received his 50-year pin.
He was
a former member of Prairieland Community Housing Board of Directors and
of the Prairie Township Advisory Board. He had received the Round
Grove Award for outstanding person of
the year.
Survivors are a son, Don, R.2, Brookston; two daughters: Mrs. June Carter, R.1, Brookston and Joy Carlson, Warsaw; a brother, Roscoe, Noblesville; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Two brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren are deceased.
The funeral was today at 11 a.m. in Badger Grove Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Christi Schmidt officiating.
Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
