Fred L. Miller
Fred L. Miller, 90, of Monticello, died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at White County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Tangipahoa Parish, LA, on July 25, 1914, to Loran E. and Ethel Deer Miller. He married Wilhelmina "Wilma" Diveley at the Monticello Christian Church, then on Bluff Street June 10, 1945. She survives.
He had moved to the Idaville community with his family in 1920 and was a 1932 graduate of Idaville High School. He was also a yell leader while in school.
He had worked in the funeral industry since 1936. He received his 70-year pin from IFDA (Indiana Funeral Directors Association on June 7th of this year. In 1943, Fred and his late brother Ralph moved the Miller Funeral home from Idaville to Monticello where he continued to work until his retirement in 1986.
He was very interested in sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was an official for high school basketball and baseball for more than 20 years. He helped found the White County Softball League many years ago.
He served two terms on the White County Council in the 1960's.
He was a member of the Christian Church of Monticello where he had served as a deacon.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge 107 of Monticello. He had also served as the treasurer of the lodge and the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery for several years.
He was a member of the Redman Lodge and had served as president of the Kiwanis Club, both of Monticello.
In 1997 Fred helped found the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home and has been very active ever since.
Other survivors include a sister, Margaret Leming of Indianapolis, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Brothers J. Earl and Ralph Miller; and sisters, Gertrude Miller and Mildred McCutchen are deceased.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-7 p.m. at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the Monticello Christian Church.
Services will be at the church at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Rev. Chris Dodson and Rev. Nord Zootman officiating.
Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.
