Lydia Ellen McDonald
Lydia Ellen McDonald, 96, formerly of Monon died August 12, 2004, at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center in Monticello. She had been ill for four years.
She was born on November 18, 1907 in Buck Creek, to William Silas and Catherine Anna Kaufman Long. She married Everett McDonald on August 19, 1937 in Valparaiso. He preceded her in death.
After moving to Monon in 1937, she and her husband owned several local businesses, including the I.G.A. Grocery Store from 1937-47; the McDonald Hardware Store from 1947-56, the Monon Tastee Freeze from 1956-65, and the Kaiser-Frazier Car Dealership from 1949-53. She retired in 1965.
She was a member of the Monon First Baptist Church. She also belonged to the Monon Home Extension Club and was a member of the former Monon Women's Civic Club. Survivors include two nieces and seven nephews.
Four brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services were at the Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon with Pastor Duane Long officiating.
Burial was in Bedford Cemetery.
