Hugh Martin

          Hugh Martin, 71, of Lafayette, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

          He was born Dec. 7, 1928, to Merle and Anna Dempster Martin, in Reynolds. He was mamed May 11, 1952, to Jo Ann Wann. She died Oct. 23, 1996. He then married Jo Brandt of Chalmers. Sept. 3, 199. She survives.

          He graduated from Chalmers High School in 1946 and from Purdue University in 1950, with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.

          He was a veteran of the Korean war, serving with the U.S. Army Signal corps as a corporal, stationed at Ft. Monmouth, N.J. from 1950-56.

          He was an electrical engineer with General Electric in Fort Wayne, retiring in 1990, after 38 years.

          He lived in Fort Wayne from 1962 until moving in 1999 to Lafayette.

          He was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne.
          He was a member of Chalmers American Legion Post 268, General Electric Quarter Century Club, General Electric Elfun Society, Study Connection and Investment Research Association. He was a registered Professional engineer  in the states of Indiana and Tennessee.
          He is survived by his wife; sons, Jack Daniel Martin, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Steven Jay Martin, Indianapolis; daughter, Mrs Tom (Kay) Renner, West Lafayette; brothers, Dempster Martin and Merle Martin, both of Reynolds; sisters. Marian Townsend of Upland, Mrs Jim (Carol) Schroeder of Reynolds and Nancy Martin of West Lafayette; his mother, Anna Martin, West Lafayette; and four grandchildren, Nicholas Martin and Adam, Hannah and Jack Renner.
          His father and a brother, Jack are deceased
          Funeral services were Monday at Chalmers Conmumity Church with Pastor Bill Henderson and the Rev. Curt Sylvester officiating.
          Burial with American Legion Post 268 military service was at Chalmers Community Cemetery.

          Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
