Anna Marie Dempster Martin

Anna Marie Dempster Martin, 101, of Reynolds died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at George Davis Manor in West Lafayette.

She was born in Fayette County, Iowa on February 13, 1901 to George and Effie (Moore) Dempster. She married Merle C. Martin in Springfield, S.D. on November 25, 1922. He died on April 2, 1964.

She received a teaching certificate from Normal School in Springfield, S.D., where she taught school and worked as a homemaker and also a seamstress in South Bend.

She had lived in her rural Reynolds home for 72 years until 1996, when she moved in with her daughter, Nancy, in West Lafayette. She was admitted to George Davis Manor just two months ago.

She enjoyed oil painting, gardening, playing the piano, bird watching and reading.

She was a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary of Wolcott, and West Point Twp. Home Extension Club.

She is survived by two sons and three daughters: Dempster (Ruth) Martin and Merle (Nila) Martin of Reynolds; Marian Townsend of Upland; Carol (James) Schroeder of Fairfield Glade, Tenn; and Nancy Martin of West Lafayette. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Two sons, Jack E. and Eugene Hugh Martin, as well as two brothers, three sisters and three grandchildren preceded her in death.

Funeral services were Monday, April 1, 2002 at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with the Revs. Bryan Ton and Wesley Brookshire officiating. Burial was in IOOF Riverview Cemetery in Monticello.
