William "Bill" Luse

William "Bill" Luse, 84, of Monticello died Thursday, February 27, 2003 at his daughter's residence in Ft. Myers, Fla.

"Captain "Bill" Luse was born at Monticello on January 16, 1919, to William and Erma (Malone) Luse. He married Margaret Jane VanMeter at Monticello on July 15, 1938. She survives.

He built the Madam Carroll and captained the boat for 22 years.

Luse and Son Enterprises built the Skyride at Indiana Beach and the Skyride at one of the Lake of the Ozarks. Luse and Son Enterprises also built the Antique Cars at Indiana Beach and he also put in the original Boardwalk at Indiana Beach. They also started the go-karts at Indiana Beach.

Twin Lakes Enterprises, [of] which he was also the owner and operator, built the steel seawalls for Lake Shafer and Lake Freeman for more than 20 years.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Masons and Shriners, all of Monticello. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

Other survivors include daughters, Donna Smith and Beverly (Richard) Greene, both of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Barbara Clawson of Yeoman; a son Bill (Judy) Luse, Jr., of Monticello; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Brothers, Jerry Luse, Kenny Luse and Ralph Luse and a sister Mary Pohl are deceased.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, with Rev. Bill Moore officiating.

Burial was at Hughes Cemetery, Monticello.
