Joy McCully Brackney Kester

Joy M. McCully Brackney Rester, 93, formerly of Brookston, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, at National Health Care Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, following a stroke.

She was born July 23, 1902, to Hamilton E. McCully and Mary Jane Smith McCorkle, in Idaville. Her first marriage was in 1924, to Emory Paul Brackney, who died in 1936. Her second marriage was in 1957, to Charles W. Rester, in Lafayette, and he died in 1987.

From 1910-57, she lived in Brookston. In 1957, she moved to Ohio and in 1986 to Indianapolis. She moved to Florida in 1991.

She graduated in 1920, from Brookston Higb School and from Depauw University in 1924.

She taught music at Monon for one year. She was manager of Brackney Farms while living in White County.

She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority while at Depauw. She was also a member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Brookston and Borough's Club in Dayton, Ohio.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs James (Joyann) McEnaney of Pompano Beach, Fla. and Marilyn Thorn of Palm Desert, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Dolores Kester Allen of Tucson, Arizona; and seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A brother, William McCully, is deceased.

The funeral was Thursday, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating.

Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
