Richard Carlyle Jones, 71, 302 W. Fifth Street, Brookston, died Saturday, April 8, in Veterans Administration Hospital, Indianapolis.
He was born Aug. 21, 1917, to Richard C. and Maida Bird Jones in Monterey, Virginia. He mamed Lorene Williams in 1987, who survives.
He was a 1933 graduate of Monterey High School and a 1938 graduate of Virginia Polytechnical Institute, Blackburg, Virginia.
He was an electronic engineer in the Navy and retired as a lieutenant commander after serving for 27 years. He was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church.
Surviving along with his wife, are three daughters; Roberta Gintz, Betsy Perock and Jeannie Jones and a son, Rick, all of California; two sisters, Jane Andrews, Farmville, Va., and Mrs Frank (Eleanor) Riddle, Brookston; three stepchildren, Greg Williams, Fort Worth, Texas; Master Sgt Walter Williams, Oscoda AFB, Mich.; and Tommy Williams, Winston-Salem, N.C.; stepdaughter, Vicki Williams, Winston-Salem; five grandchildren and three step grandchildren.
Funeral was Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev Loren Shuman officiating.
Burial was in Monterey.
