Alva M. Johnston

Alva M. Johnston, 84, Monticello, died Saturday, January 1, 2000, at Twin Lakes Village.

He was born Aug. 31, 1915, to Harry and Amy Herr Johnston. in Wolcott. He was married February 28, 1936, to Maxine V. Crawford, and she died May 27, 1996. He had lived all his life in the Monticello area and was a farmer and operated a mobile home court for 30 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Monticello.

He had been a member of the former Bumettsville Masonic Lodge and was a current member of the Royal Center Masonic Lodge.

He also was a member of the White County Shrine Club, the Murat Temple and Scottish Rite Valley in Indianapolis and the York Rite in  Lafayette.

He is survived by sons, L. Joe Johnston, John L. Johnston and James E. Johnston, all of Monticello; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A brother is deceased.

Memorial service was held Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Cobb officiating.

Memorials may be given to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or the American Heart Association, in lieu of flowers.

Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
