Melvin "Mel" Johnson

Melvin "Mel" Johnson, 89, of Lutz, Florida and formerly of Tippecanoe Co. , the brother of a local resident died Wednesday, August 2, in Tampa, Florida.

He was born August 8, 1910, to John Melvin and Rose Helfrich Johnson, in Rensselaer. He was married October 29, 1933, to Louise Dawkins, in Tippecanoe County and she survives.

He was a store manager for Montgomery Wards in Gary and was retired. He had lived in Lutz, Florida, since 1992, moving from Hobart

He was a member of Tims Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lutz, Florida

He was a member of Ohio Valley Scottish Rite. He was a 63-year member of West Lafayette Masonic Lodge No. 724.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Mary Gavenas of Lutz., Fla.; a brother, John M. Johnson, Monticello; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Two brothers and a sister are deceased.

Funeral services for family and friends will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Chapel, West Lafayette, with the Rev. Tammy Mills officiating.

Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.

Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of arrangements.
