Donald Henry "Don" Jahnke, 76, West Lafayette, died Friday, Dec. 2, at his home after a five-month illness.
He was born May 12, 1918, to Henry Frank and Dora May Myers Jahnke, in Lewis, Iowa.He was married in 1937 to Lena Sackett, who died in 1968. He was married June 30, 1972, to Doris Morthorst, in Chicago Heights, Ill., and she survives.
He graduated in 1930 from Lewis High School, Lewis, Iowa. He served in the Army during World War II in an engineering unit and attended Illinois Technical Institute for two years.
He moved from Steger, Ill. to Brookston, where he lived for 14 years. He wrote a weekly colunm, "Don's Views," in the Brookston Prairie Review for the last eight years.
He was a retired electrician and member of the Battle Ground Bible Church.
Surviving with his wife, are a son, Rev. Don L. Jahnke, Chicago; five daughters; Mrs Orv (Deitrah) Womack, Mokena, Ill., Mrs. Mike (Debra) Fitzgerald, Vero Beach, Florida; Mrs Douglas (Diane) Wheeler-Born of Coal City, Ill.; Mrs Bryan (Denise) McLauchlan of Sauk Village, Ill and Mrs Mike (Mary) Dwyer, Lafayette; a brother, Dale Jahnke, Camp Verde, Arizona and 16 grandchildren. A son, James and sister are deceased.
The funeral

Burial was in Skyline Memorial Cemetery, Monee, Ill.
Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be given to the Battle Ground Bible Church.
