Marion J. 'Bill' Irwin

Marion J. "Bill" Irwin, 92, formerly of Monticello, died Sunday, Jan. 23, at White Co. Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since Thursday.

He had been a resident of Twin Lakes Village since April 1999.

He was born March 9, 1907, to William R. and Ella M. Howell Irwin near Remington in Gilboa Township. He was married Nov. 6,1943, to Mary M. Tutewiler in Macon, Georgia, and she died Jan. 11, 1994.

He graduated from Gilboa High School in 1925 and attended Purdue's School of Agriculture for a year.

He served from 1943-45 in the U.S. Army and was a Sergeant in Co. C Infantry Training Battalion.

He had lived in Monticello since 1978, moving here from Route 2, Brookston.

He worked at Ross Gear TRW in Lafayette for 13 years, retiring Nov. 1, 1971.

He attended the First Baptist Church, Monticello.

He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and was a 50-year member of Prairie Masonic Lodge No. 125, Rensselaer.

Survivors include a son, James W. Irwin, Lafayette; a daughter, Janie (Larry) Darling, Brookston; five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A son, Dennis (1972), and a brother are deceased.

Funeral services were today, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Mark A. Pittman officiating.

Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
