Irene F. Irons

Irene F. Irons, 89, of Monon, died Monday, August 5, 2002, at White County Memorial Hospital. She had been ill for several months.

She was born in Chalmers on May 3, 1913, to Roy D. and Ruth VanVoorst Fisher. She married Paul R. "Bob" Irons on October 21, 1945, in Monon. He survives.

She lived in the community for most of her life. She was a 1931 graduate of Chalmers High School, and attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

She was a schoolteacher, who taught at West Point Township for one year, five years at Royal Center and 19 years at Monon Elementary School. She retired in 1968, after teaching for 25 years.

She attended the Monon United Methodist Church.

She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 319; Town & Country Extension Homemakers Club of Monon; and national retired teachers associations.

Surviving along with her husband are a brother, Herbert (Lucille) Fisher of Brookston; and 22 nieces and nephews.

Four brothers and two sisters are deceased.

Funeral services were August 8th at Kellogg Funeral Home with Pastor Mathew Pickut officiating.

Burial was at Bedford Cemetery.
