Donald L. "Don["] Hurley
Donald L. "Don" Hurley, 66, of Brookston died Monday, October 20, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Emergency Room, Lafayette.
He was born at Champaign, Ill., on August 12, 1937, to Vernon K. and Leana Jzanathea Royer Hurley. He married Elvira "Vera" Wust at Mannheim, Germany on May 8, 1959. She survives.
He and his wife had lived in the Brookston community for three years.
He retired in 1975 from the U.S. Army serving 20 years. He had served in Germany for 16 years and had also served in Vietnam from 1969-1970.
He had also retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1993, after working for nine years. He had worked at the Monticello, Reynolds and Lafayette post offices. He was a member of the Monticello American Legion, VFW and AMVETS posts and Redmens Lodge.
He collected cars, all kinds of military memorabilia and pigs. He loved camping, traveling and whistling. He was also a mechanic who enjoyed working on cars and trucks.
Other survivors inlcude [sic] sons Tom Hurley of Brookston and Roger Hurley (fiancee Phyllis Reeves) of Reynolds; stepdaughters Theresa (Dennis) Graves of Lafayette; a sister Carol Neece of Greenwood, five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
An infant son, Donald L. Hurley, Jr., two sisters and six brothers are deceased.
Funeral services were at Chalmers Cemetery on Friday with Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.
Miller-Roscka Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
