Valeria Apple Hughes, 97 of 5169 N. E. Shafer Drive, Monticello died Sunday, August 29, 1999 at White County Memorial Hospital.
She was born September 29, 1901 in Washington County, Ky, the daughter of Charles and Pearl Clark Tumey.
She had lived, owned and operated Riverview Park Resort for 50 years. She was a former member of Broad Ripple Eastern Star, Liberty Township Home Ec Club, and Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was a member of Central Christian Church in Indianapolis, and Lake Shafer Welfare Association.
She graduated from Arsnel Tech High School in Indianapolis. She had lived in Carmel before moving to the Lowe's Bndge area.
She enjoyed being with family, taking pictures and ceramics.
She was married June 22, 1929 in Mackville, Kentucky to Dale Apple. He died October 25, 1958. She then married Ted Hughes on June 10, 1968 in Mackville, Kentucky. He died June 1978.
Surviving are a son Don Apple of Monticello, a daughter Marlyn Smith of Monticello, a sister Frances Neese of Indianapolis.
She had 7 step-children, 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She also had several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello with Pastor Kenneth Apple officiating.
Burial will be in Hughes Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and after 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.
