Vera Pearl Bums Hughes, 87, Monticello, died Thursday, March 9, at Home Hospital, Lafayette. She had been in ill heaith for two years.

She was born Feb. 28, 1913, to Earl and Alice Maud Hinshaw Bums, in Monticello. She married Robert L. Hughes and he died March 17, 1972.

She lived in Monticello all her life. She was a homemaker and later worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Bougher and Dr. Beck.

She was a member of Tri-Kappa Sorority, Eastern Star, Monticello Artists Association, the Garden Club and the White Co. Historical Society.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Susan (Jeff) Smithburn, Indianapolis and Mrs Mary (John) Briney of Monon; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, with the Rev. James Cobb officiating.

Burial was in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery..

Memorials may be given to the White Co. Historical Society, Indianapolis Museum of Art or First Presbyterian Church..
