Orval R. Hughes

Orval R. Hughes, 91, of Monon died Friday, May 2, 2003 at White County Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for a week.

He was born at Monon on August 22, 1911, to Leonard and Lulu Johns Hughes. He married Velma Jean McCollum at Wabash on June 21, 1946. She survives.

He attended Monon schools and was a graduate of Coyne Electrical and Radio School, Chicago.

He was employed as a meat cutter for several years and worked at area grocery stores. He worked at RCA in Monticello as a final inspector for 24 years and was retired.

He was a member of Monon First Baptist Church.

His hobbies were fishing, gardening and yard work.

Other survivors include a daughter, Leah Ann Holdcraft (Robert) Marion of Monon; grandchildren, Kirk (Becky) Holdcraft of Thornton, Ill., and Kathy (Jim) Wilkerson of Monon; four great-grandchildren and a great great grandson.

A brother and a sister are deceased.

Funeral services were Sunday at the Monon First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Birch officiating.

Burial was in Monon Cemetery, Monon. Kellogg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
