Kenneth "Sip" Hughes, 73, Chalmers, died Sunday, Oct. 27, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, where he had been a patient since Oct. 23rd.
He was born Sept: 17, 1918, to Charles and Letita Carroll Hughes, in Chalmers. He was married Nov. 21, 1941, to JoAnn Burks, in Brookston and she survives.
In 1936, be graduated from Chalmers High School.
He was a veteran of World War II, as a ship's cook-second class, in .the Navy.
He retired in 1978, from Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette, where he worked for 32 years.
He was a member of Chalmers Community Church; Chalmers American Legion Post No. 268; Libanus Lodge No. 154; F&AM, Monticello and Chalmers Civic Club.
Also surviving are two sons, Thomas H., R.2, Brookston and Kenneth E., Chalmers; two brothers, Perry "June" and Gene, both of Chalmers; two sisters, Mrs Celia Roberts, Muncie and Mrs Vera Ryden, Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; and a great grandson. Six brothers, a son, and a grandson are deceased.
The funeral was Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Loren Shuman officiating.
Graveside rites were conducted by Chalmers American Legion at Chalmers Community Cemetery.
