Donald C. Hornbeck

Donald C. Hornbeck, 82, of Rensselaer, died Friday, May 21, 2004, at the Richard L. Rodebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.

He was born December 3, 1921 in Lee to A.G. and Maude (nee Watson) Hornbeck.

He married Wilma E. Swartz on January 27, 1951 in Monticello. She survives.

He graduated from Idaville High School in 1942.

He was a retired sales clerk from Von Tobel Lumber. in Rensselaer. He also worked at Monticello Spring Corporation and as s security guard for Michigan Peat Moss.

He served in the U. S. Army during World War II as a sergeant in Company C., 10th Armored Infantry in France. He was a Bronze star and Purple Heart medal recipient.

He was a 50 year member of V.F.W. Post 1279, a life member of the Disabled Veterans, the American Legion Post 238, Prairie Lodge No. 125 F&AM, the York Rite of Indiana in Lafayette and the York Rite of Rensselaer.

Other survivors include sons Greg (Kimberly) Walden, Rensselaer, Doug (Lisa) Hornbeck, of Rensselaer, David (Cheryl) Hornbeck of Remington and daughter Donya (Delmar) Jordan, of Rensselaer; a brother, Dallas H. (Enid) Hornbeck of Milwaukee, Wisc; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grand children.

He was preceded in death by his parents A. G. Hornbeck and Maude Hornbeck nee Watson, and a sister, Audrey Hornbeck.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer with Pastor James Blanchard officiating.

Burial was at Bedford Cemetery, Monon.
