William Mark "Bill" Hoover, 63, of Lafayette and formerly of Monon died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Home Hospital.
Born May 7, 1942, in Monon, he graduated from Monon High School in 1960. He resided in Monon until relocating to Lafayette in 1988.
He married Donna L. Vieregge on Dpcember 24, 1961, at St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds and she survives.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force, and was a lifetime American Legion Legionnaire.
Bills' [sic] career in the semi-trailer manufacturing industry began as part time in 1959 in his junior year of high school at Monon Trailer. In 1965, he advanced to become a Purchasing Agent and later Vice President of Sales/Marketing. In April of 1985, Mr. Hoover was one of the founding principals of Wabash National Corporation in Lafayette. As Vice President of Sales/Marketing, he continued in the growth of the company until his retirement in 1994.
In addition to being a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Lafayette, Bill was on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Wabash Valley for six years. He served on the County Park Board the past five years as well as serving as the President of the Tippecanoe County Park Foundation Board. He was an avid fan of Purdue sports and a member of the John Purdue Club.
He enjoyed traveling, auto racing, and Purdue football, but most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving with his wife of 44 years are two daughters, Shane Renee (Ron) Griggs of Lafayette; Rhonda Lee Peters of West Lafayette; two sisters, Lois L. (Harold) Jones of Leesburg and Debbie J. (Charles) Jennings of Lafayette. Also, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Hoover of Reynolds. He had three grandchildren, Katie and Benjamin Griggs, and Abigail Peters and three nieces and three nephews.
Funeral services were Monday at St. James Lutheran Church in Lafayette with Pastor David French officiating.
Interment was at St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Reynolds with full military rites.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Dorothy and Arthur Hoover and a brother Larry Hoover.
