Arthur L. Hoover, 84, of 203 E. 4th St., Monon, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Home Hospital in Lafayette. He was born August 24, 1919 in Monon Township, the son of Mark Elmer and Cleo Stella Mellander Hoover.
He married Dorothy June Schoetker on February 28, 1940, in Monon. She is deceased.
He had lived in the community all of his life. He worked at Chemtron Corp. in Monticello for 20 years and was a retired farmer.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He attended Monon Schools and was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #181 in Leesburg, IN and the American Legion Post #319 in Monon.
Surviving are a son, Bill (Donna) Hoover of Lafayette; two daughters, Debbie (Charles) Jennings of Lafayette and Lois (Harold) Jones of Leesburg, IN; one brother, Lewis (Doris) Hoover of Monon and four sisters, Laura Hoover, Hazel Hoover, and Ida Bulington, all of Monon, and Millie (Bill) Bunton of Michigan City.
One son, Larry (widow Phyllis) Hoover of Reynolds is deceased. He had eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Kellogg Funeral Home between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Masonic services will be held at 7:45 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Kellogg Funeral Home with Pastor Mathew Pickut officiating. Burial will be in Monon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Monon Volunteer Fire Department.
