Violet Hirt

Violet M. Hirt, 89, of Monticello died Monday, October 18, 2004 at Home Hospital in Lafayette.

She was born September 8, 1915 in Monon to Simeon and Aletha Whiteman Marion.

She married Joe O. Hirt on March 29, 1936 at the Buffalo Church of the Brethren in Buffalo. He died December 31, 2002.

She had lived in the Monticello community most of her life and was a 1933 graduate of Monon High School in Monon, Indiana.

She was a member of the Church of the Brethren for over 70 years.

She had worked at the old Harwood & Spencer Dime Stores in Monticello for several years. She also delivered newspapers for the Monticello Herald Journal, Lafayette Journal Courier and Indianapolis Star for several years.

She also had worked at Indiana Beach for several years.

She enjoyed working with her flowers, gardening, and corresponding with family and friends.

She had a wonderful sense of humor.

Survivors include a chosen son, Lewis R. 'Sonny" (Beverly) Funk of Monticello; sisters in law Lois (William) Lister of Port Orange, Fla., Ruth Rickliff Crutchfield Malin of New Whiteland, IN and Lova Marion of Monticello. She had 5 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

One sister, Ellen Lorene Ezra, and two brothers, John Marion and William Marion, preceded her in death.

Friends may call at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home at Monticello from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2004. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 22, 2004 with Rev. Melvin Lang officiating.

Burial will be in the Buffalo Cemetery.
