Leslie 'Abe' Hicks

Leslie 'Abe' Hicks, 73, Chalmers, died Monday, Jan. 22, in his home, at 8:45 a.m. He had been in failing health for several years.

He was born July 31, 1916, to Jesse Homer and Julia Edith Osborn Hicks, in Montgomery County. He was married Dec. 23, 1945, to Lorene 'Rene' Edwards, in Lafayette. She survives.

He moved from Monticello to Chalmers, in 1965. He was a 20 year employee of Hicks Gas, retiring in 1972.

He served in the Army in World War II and was in central Europe.  He was a member of Chalmers American Legion Post 268.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Leslie Jr., Lafayette and James, Chalmers; two daughters, Mrs Bruce (Edith) Glass, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mrs Richard (Nancy) Parker, Monticello; two brothers, Harold, Lafayette and Jesse, Monticello; three sisters, Mrs James (Grace) Taylor, Battle Ground, Mrs Edith Virden, Lafayette and Mrs Don (Donna) Brumfield, Oklahoma City; and 12 grandchildren. Three brothers and four sisters are deceased.

Services were conducted today at 11 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston with military graveside rites by Chalmers American Legion.
