Eugene Heiny

Eugene "Gene" Heiny, 82, of Monticello died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare.

He was born in Idaville on November 22, 1920, to Clayton O. and Hattie Tam Heiny. He married Esther Conwell in 1939. He then married Carolyn Carson in Monticello on April 2, 1948. She died on July 11, 1989.

He lived in White County all of his life, and was a 1936 graduate of Idaville High School. During high school years as a Green Streak, he was a standout on the basketball team.

He was also a graduate of Ft. Wayne Business College.

He was employed as an accountant at the Monticello RCA plant until his retirement in 1980.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Pine View Golf Club, and Tri-Kappa Bridge-A-Rama, all of Monticello. He was a former member of Tippecanoe Country Club, where he loved to golf and play bridge and was a past president of the White County Saddle Club. He raised Appaloosa horses and participated in the 100-mile horse ride in Corydon.

He enjoyed playing euchre at the American Legion and Moose Lodge, both of Monticello. He also enjoyed fishing, boating and watching his granddaughter, Stacie play softball.

Survivors include daughters, Susan (Gale) Wright of Monticello, Saundra (Max) Green of Monon and Judy (Ron) Sheridan of Indianapolis; sons Robert (Lorie) Heiny of St. John and Ron (Chris) Heiny of Sullivan; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

His twin sister, Imogene Heiny Hutton; an infant daughter; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter preceded him in death.

Funeral services were at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello on Saturday with Rev. Keith Raderstorf officiating.

Burial was in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Monticello Softball Association at Voight Park.
