Francis 'Spud' Haskins

Francis "Spud" Nelson Haskins, 66, of Monon died Monday, January 27, 2003, at White County Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Wolcott on July 9, 1936, to Frank Nelson and Helen E. Boone Haskins. He married Thelma J. Smith in South Carolina on March 9, 1993. She survives.

He attended Monon High School and was a lifetime resident of White County.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1962. He was a sergeant with the 305th Bomb Wing.

He was a truck driver and an electrician. He was retired.

He was a member of American Legion Post 81 and AMVETS, both of Monticello, and Monon Eagles Lodge 2788.

Surviving with his wife are sons, Frank William (Leann) Haskins of Winston Salem, N.C, Mark Anthony (Gwen) Haskins and Michael Andrew Haskins, both of Gastonia, N.C., and Rivhard (Debbie) Woodward of Oxford; daughters, Helen Margaret (Dwayne) Hamacher and Catherine Frances (Steve) Buckles, both of Gastonia, N.C., Vikki (Scott) Stearns of Burnettsville, Connie Hutton of Delphi, Kimberly Baker of Monticello; brothers, Harold Haskins of Martinsville, Thomas G. (Bev) Haskins of Wheeler, Daniel W. (Janet) Haskins of Wolcott, Samuel E. (Donna) Haskins of Monon and Larry A. (Debbie) Haskins of Chittengo, N.Y.; a sister, Mary M. (Kenneth) Sheffer of Monon. He had 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A brother, Russell Haskins is deceased.

Funeral services were Monday at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon with Rev. Steve Birch officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Cemetery at a later date.
