Mary Josephine Harrer
Mary Josephine (Tennell) Harrer, 83, of West Lafayette, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Manor Care Hospice in Hinsdale, Ill. She was born February 25, 1920, in Winamac, the daughter of William E. and Hazel Parker Tennell. Her marriage was to Kenneth Harrer on December 15, 1945 in Bloomington, In. He died February 16, 1989.
She had lived in Tippecanoe County since 1949 coming from Bloomington.
She graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1938 and Indiana University in 1942.
She helped her husband in their business the Audio-Video Shoppe on Stadium Ave., West Lafayette for about 20 years, retiring in 1989.
She was an avid reader and loved to walk.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
Survivors include a daughter Diana (Paul) Coulis of Hinsdale, IL; two sons, Robert (Janis) Harrer of San Francisco, CA and James (Kathy) Harrer of Shelbyville and a brother William Tennell of Bloomington, IN. She had three grandchildren, Dana Coulis, Christian Coulis, and John Christian Harrer; three step-grandchildren, Christina Ward, Christopher Valentine and Kyle Valentine, and two step-great grandchildren, Jamie Ward and Klara Valentine.
Funeral services were Friday at First United Methodist Church in West Lafayette with Rev. Dr. James Morin and Rev. Katherine Walker officiating. Soller-Baker Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Entombment was at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in West Lafayette or Pancreatic Cancer Research.
