James Edward Harlan
James Edward Harlan, 69, of Hadden Heights, N.J., a former Monon resident, died January 1, 2002.
He was born in Scottsville, Ky., in 1932 to Clarence Harlan and Alma Harlan Burns Lawson. He married Maxine Gregory of Richmond, Va., in 1961. She survives.
He was a 1950 graduate of Monon High School where he was on the basketball team. He graduated from Randolph-Macon University in 1958.
He served in the U. S. Army as a medic during the Korean Conflict.
He received many awards and trophies for playing fast-pitch softball and was inducted into the Softball Fast-Pitch Hall of Fame in 1996.
Other survivors include sons Eric, Patrick and Michael; a daughter, Valerie; half sisters Mabel Haygood of Monticello and Helen Landrum of Mountain View, Mo.; and for [sic] grandchildren.
A brother and an infant sister are deceased.
A memorial service and reception is planned on January 19 at his residence in Hadden Heights, N.J.
