Daniel Steven Hampton, 49, of Monon died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at his residence.

He was born at Lafayette on May 1, 1953, to William Jesse and Lois Ray Hampton. He married Clara Hampton at Monticello on September 13, 1991. She survives.

He was a self-employed mechanic. He loved to fish.

Other survivors include a son, Daniel Hampton II of Monon; daughter Rachel Hampton of Monon; step daughter, Laura Gee of Cooksville, Ill; step sons, Benny Loveless, Jr. and Brandon Loveless, both of Bloomington, Ill; brothers, William (Bev) Hampton of Monticello, Ronald (Judy) Hampton of Indianapolis and James David (Susan) Hampton of Monon; and sisters, Darlene (Floyd) Combs and Penny (Jim) Honeycutt, both of Monticello.

A brother and sister are deceased.

A memorial service was Monday at Monticello United Methodist Church with Rev. James Copeland officiating.
