Bessie L. Hague

Bessie L. Hague, 86, of Brookston died August 31, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi.

She was born March 24, 1918 in Brookston, the daughter of Asa and Daisy Ward Oilar. She was lifelong resident of Brookston, and a 1936 graduate of Brookston High School.

Her marriage was to Charles H. "Buttercup" Hague on November 1, 1942. He died August 22, 1990.

She retired from JC Penny [sic] Co. in 1983 after working there for 17 years, and she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Brookston Federated Church, Prairie Home Demonstration Club anc Frontier Senior Citizens Club. She taught Sunday school at the church for more than 20 years.

She enjoyed playing cards and watching Purdue football and basketball on the television. She also enjoyed spending time with her 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda (Bob) Klinkhammer of Brookston; two sons, John (Peg) Hague of Brookston and Don Hague of Holly Springs, Ga.; a brother Eugene "Jiggs" Oilar of Chalmers; and a sister Pauline Jewett of New Milford, Conn.

Two brothers and seven sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were today at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.

Interment was in Brookston IOOF Cemetery.
