Lester Girtz

Lester Frederick Girtz, 79, of Remington, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at Jasper County Hospital. He had been in ill health for the past several years.

He was born at Camden on May 18, 1924, to Robert and Gertrude Dittman Girtz. He married Alice Mary Cornwell at Remington in 1948. She survives.

He was a graduate of Remington High School Class of 1942.

A livelong [sic] resident of Remington, he had farmed and operated a trucking business in Remington area until forced to retire due to ill health.

He later worked at Purdue University with maintenance in Mackey Arena. He retired in 1989.

He was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 169 of Remington.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis.

He also enjoyed his time fishing.

Other survivors include daughters Charlene Diane (Charles D.) Koebcke of Remington and Sharon Sue (Steve) Carlson of Monon; son, Roger E. (Jeanne) Girtz of Indianapolis and three grandchildren.

A sister, Henrietta Yoder is deceased.

Funeral services were Friday at the Stitz Funeral Home in Remington with Rev. Jacqueline Foley officiating.

Burial was at Remington Cemetery.
