Leland Dale Gardiner, 65, died at the scene of a one-vehicle accident at 7:50 p.m., Aug. 12, in White County.

Mr Gardiner retired from John E. Smith Construction Co. of Lafayette in 1983.

He was born June 8, 1922 in Brookston and attended Brookston schools. He lived at 100 S Midway St., Brookston.

He married Nancy Horn, Oct 25, 1947 in Monticello. She is an employee of Landis & Gyr, Inc.

Mr Gardiner was in the Army from 1942 to 1945 and served in Europe. He was a member of VFW of Lafayette Post 1154 and Chalmers American Legion Post 268.

Surviving with his widow are a son, Daniel Gardiner, R.1, Brookston; one brother, Gleason Gardiner; and a sister; Mrs Donal (Delores) Rush, both of R.2, Brookston, and a granddaughter. A brother, Charles, and an infant sister preceded in death.

Service was Saturday, at 2 p.m. in the Hartzler Chapel in Brookston, with the Rev Gene Ansell officiating. Interment was in Spring Creek Cemetery
