Phyllis J. Gano, 77, Monon, died Saturday, Oct. 10, in Jasper Co. Memorial Hospital, Rensselaer. She had been ill for four months.
She was born July 24, 1921, to Earl Karr and Ruth Carnie Winkley, in Monon, and graduated from Monon High School in 1939, and was a lifelong resident.
She was married June 24, 1943, to Russell G. Gano, in Monon.
Mrs Gano and her husband owned and operated Monon Tavern Inc. for 10 years. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1996.
She was a member of Monon United Methodist Church and Eastern Star Lodge 171 in Wolcott. She was a sponsor for a Monon Little League baseball team
Survivors include a son, Phillip L. Gano, Porter, Ind.; a daughter, Joyce A. Doyle, Monon; a brother, John W. Winkley, Los Angeles; and a sister, Mary Dekkard, Hobart. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter.
Memorial service will be Thursday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, at '7 p.m., with Rev. William Kehlhofer officiating.
Burial in Riverview Cemetery, Monticello at a later date.
Memorials may be given to Monon United Methodist Church, or Monon Little League.
