Mary A. McDowell Dykhuizen, 86, died Friday, Oct. 7, in Gentle Care Nursing Home where she had been a resident since 1987.
She was born Sept. 29, 1908 in Attica. She married Edward C. "Dyke" Dykhuizen on March 14, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio. he died Jan. 11, 1992. He was an agriculture teacher for 33 years at Brookston and Frontier High Schools.
Mrs. Dykhuizen lived in Brookston from 1937 to 1987. She was a 1927 graduate of Jefferson High School and graduated from the Lafayette Conservatory of Music.
She worked for Lafayette Painting and Decorating. She was the Brookston librarian for 20 years retiring in July of 1967.
She was a member of the Brookston Federated Church, and sang in the choir for 20 years. She was a former member of the Mother's Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Schilling of Frankfort and Mrs Rex (Margene) Lewis of Lafayette; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A brother is deceased.
A private family service was held Monday, Oct. 10 in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Chapel. Intombment was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of arrangements.
