Dale Dyer, 89, of Brookston, died Saturday, December 20, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Delphi.
He was born at Brookston on October 25, 1914 and was a lifelong resident.
He married Dorothy Grandstaff on March 30, 1936, in Battle Ground. She died on January 10, 1981.
He later married Olive Coates on July 25, 1983 in Danville, Ill. She died in 1985.
He worked for the White County Highway Department for 28 years until retiring in 1978. He was also a cook at the Top Notch Bar in Brookston for 17 years.
He enjoyed fishing, pitching horseshoes, Cubs baseball and — later in life, bingo.
Surviving are daughters Judy (Bill) Phillips of Delphi and Carolyn (Fred) Stokes of Brookston; sons James B. (Janice) Dyer of Mulberry and David L. (Jo) Dyer of Lafayette; stepsons William (Rose) Coates of Brookston and Charlie McCann of Arcadia, Calif.; a sister, Maxine Blackman of Monticello; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.
Three sisters, one brother and a daughter are deceased.
Funeral services were at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston on Tuesday, Dec. 23 with Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds officiating.
Burial was in Brookston I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the St. Elizabeth Health Care Activities Department in Delphi.
