MELBA M. DORTON

Melba M. Dorton, 90, Brookston, died Friday, evening, Oct. 7, in Home Hospital. She had been a patient there since June 20.

She was born Sept. 13, 1898, and came to Brookston from Hammond in 1951. She was a native of Chicago.

Mrs Dorton was a member of Brookston United Methodist Church, where she sung in the choir. Also, she was a member of Willing Workers; and Order of Eastern Star, Crystal Chaper in Monticello.

She married Glenn A Dorton, Feb. 6, 1920, in Hammond. He died in 1970.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Lorraine Garrott, Brookston; two sons, Robert 0. Dorton, Midland, Mich., and Glen A. Dorton, Mount Vernon, Ohio; one brother, James Soderstrom, Griffith; and two sisters, Mrs Estler Gardell, Highland and Mrs Emma Allen, Munster. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. Two brothers, 3 sisters, and one great grandson preceded in death.

Service was Monday at 11 a.m. at the Brookston United Methodist Church with the Rev Gene Ansell officiating.

Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of service.
