Avis L. Deweese, 84, former Brookston resident, died Friday, July 11, at 8:05 p.m. at Milner Community Healthcare Center in Rossville. She was admitted to Milner Community Healthcare Center, July 21, 1992.
She was born Sept. 10, 1912, to Arch M. and Blanche Baylor Shine, in New Albany. She was married Aug. 15, 1934, to Russell Deweese, in Brookston, and he died Sept 8, 1976.
She graduated in 1931, from Brookston High School.
She had lived in Brookston, since 1917, coming to White County from Floyd County.
She retired in 1977, from Purdue, where she worked as an account clerk for 15 years.
She was a member of the Brookston . Federated Church and the Philathea Sunday School Class.
Surviving are two sons, Ray L. of St. Charles, Mo. and Rex A. of Rossville; a daughter, Mrs Richard (Carol) A. Rowe, Brookston; three brothers, Ralph L. Shine, Lakeland, Fla., Guy W. Shine, West Lafayette and Howard D. Shine, Monticello; and six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A sister is deceased.
The funeral was conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
