Emma Lou (VanSchepen) Delp

Emma Lou (VanSchepen) Delp, 82, of Brookston died Monday August 1, 2005 at Lafayette Home Hospital. She had battled cancer for the past three years.

She was born in Chalmers, Ind. on December 23, 1922, the daughter of Frank and Edith (Ebershoff) VanSchepen[.] She was a graduate of Chalmers High School in 1940 and attended Lafayette Business College.

In 1940, she played the marimba on the Morris B. Sachs Amateur Hour in Chicago, Ill.

Her marriage was to Russell T. Delp on August 11, 1946 in Lafayette. He died August 5, 1995.

Mrs. Delp retired in 1985 from the Indiana Hicks Gas Brookston Office as bookkeeper after 18 years of service. She previously had worked as a secretary for Purdue University for several years.

She was a member of the Brookston Federated Church where she was an Elder and past Treasurer and Trustee. She was also a Past President of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority — Beta Chapter of Chalmers.

She was an avid card and bingo player and had a great love for music. She was a loving, caring and compassionate lady who loved everyone and everyone loved her.

Surviving are two sons, Gary (Terri) Delp of Lafayette and Thomas Delp of Brookston; and a sister, Lettie (Wesley) Strong of Lafayette; two grandchildren, Robby (Katie) Delph [sic] and Kimberly Delp.

Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 5th at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston with Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds officiating.

Burial was in Spring Creek Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Brookston Federated Church or St. Elizabeth Hospice.
