Geneva Long Dawkins

Geneva Long Dawkins, 82, of Monon, died Saturday, September 9, at 3:55 p.m. in Jasper County Hospital, Rensselaer.

She was born Feb. 2, 1918, to Robert and Ida Stinson Danner, in Chalmers. She was married January 1, 1939, to Gail Long, in Reynolds. He died October 14, 1964. She then married Terrell Dawkins, Nov. 15, 1975, in Memphis. He died July 17, 2000.

She was a homemaker and managed the family farm for 36 years.

She lived in the White County area most of her life.

She moved from Wolcott to a farm northwest of Monon in 1951.

She was a member of Southwest Baptist Church in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was a Sunday School teacher for 10 years at Monon United Methodist.

She was a member and former president of Monon Town and County Home Economics Club and a former chairman of the Monon March of Dimes.

She also served on the White County Fair Board and was on the board of directors of White County R.E.M.C.

She is survived by a daughter, Dixie (Jeff) Brown of Monon; step-sons, Bob and Chuck Dawkins of Memphis and Jim Dawkins of Dallas; brother, Robert Danner of Jonesboro, Ark.; sisters, Virginia (Dale) Schoner of Monon and Audrey (Andrew) Libertone of Elkhart; grandsons, Gail Brown of Bowie, Maine and Matthew Brown of Danville, Ky.; and five step grandchildren.

Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. Steve Birch officiating.

Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Brookston.
