John G. Coopman, 90, 1010 Cumberland Ave., West Lafayette, formerly of Brookston, died Tuesday, May 29, at 12:35 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He had been a patient since April 28.
He was born Nov. 22, 1899, to Wayburn and Anna Coopman, in White County. He was married Jan. 10, 1920, to Jeanne Wright, in Monticello. She survives.
He moved to Lafayette, in 1989, spending most of his life in Brookston. He was a graduate of Michigan State Auto School as an automobile mechanic. He worked for Wright's Garage in Brookston, retiring in 1967.
He was a member of the Brookston Town Board from Jan. 1960 to Dec. 1979. He was a former member of Knights of Pythias, Moose Lodge in Delphi and Brookston Optimists Club. He liked playing euchre and pinochle.
Surviving with his wife are one son, John W., Lafayette; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Bill, Delphi and Arthur, Linden; and one sister, Mrs Catherine Switzer, Linden. One daughter, one brother and one sister are deceased.
The funeral will be tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev Duncan MacNabb officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery in Brookston.
