Francis  "Bill"  Lewis Cooley

Francis "Bill" Lewis Cooley, 75, of Monon, died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 1999 at White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello following an illness of 3 years.

He was born June 12, 1924 in Monon, the son of Leonard and Geneva Helfrich Cooley. He marriage was to Lois Lamport in Monon on December 31, 1950. She died December 24, 1994.

A member of the First Baptist Church in Monon, he had worked for Monon Crushed Stone for 27 years as secretary- treasurer and bookkeeper. He worked for 14 years at Fauber Constmction Co.. in Lafayette.

A veteran of World War II he had served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater on a troop ship.

He was a life long resident of Monon where he belonged to the VFW and was a 50 year member of the Monon American Legion.

For years he personally placed flags on all the veteran's graves in the Monon area cemeteries for the Memorial Day.

Funeral services were Monday at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon with Rev. Steve Birch officiating. Burial was in Monon Cemetery with full Military Rites.
