Paul E. Clevenger, 70, 110 N. Wood St., Brookston died Monday in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center. He had been a patient there since June 8th.
He was born June 30, 1921, in White County, the son of Gary C. and Lelah Hague Clevinger. A graduate of Brookston High School class of 1939, he had retired in March 1990 after working for 29 years as a salesman at Smith's Shoes in Market Square.
He served in the US. Army in World War II in Europe. He was a Charter member of the Brookston Optimist Club, Past President and Past Lt. Gov. of Zone 4. He was a member of Brookston American Legion Post 251 and VFW Post 3438 in Independence, Ohio. He served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman for many years and was a current member of the Prairie Twp. Advisory Board.
He married Helen I. Fahrner, Aug. 15, 1942. She survives along with a son, Greg C. Clevinger, Brookston and a daughter, Miss Pamela S. Clevinger at home. Mrs Esther Shumaker, a sister of Brookston, survives along with 2 grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were Wednesday in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Dr. Ralph G. Smith and Pastor Jim Martin officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in Brookston.
