Vernise Carlson, 101, formerly of Monon died Monday, November 12, 2001 at Monticello Healthcare Center. She had lived at the center for the past 2 1/2 years. She had been ill for about a month.
She was born December 9, 1899 in Wolcott, the daughter of James G. and Eva Williams Spencer. Her marriage was to Richard Carison in Monticello on September 1, l921. He died October 31, 1960.
She graduated from Monon High School in 1918.
A retired schoolteacher, she taught for 3 years in Monon Twp. and Jasper County Schools. She taught in 1-room schoolhouses. She was also a homemaker and had lived in White County all her life.
She was a member of the Monon First Baptist Church and Monon Modern Homemakers Club.
Surviving are three daughters; Rachel (Edmund) Carr and Imogene (Bob) McLean, both of Clearwater, FL and Lois Newman of Lafayette and one son; Duane (Artie) Carlson of Monon.
Two sisters, Opal Shull, Kewanna, IN and Vera Wilson, Monon also survive along with 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. One son, Dean Carison, four brothers and four sisters are deceased.
Friends may call at the Kellogg Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2001.
Funeral services will be at the Kellogg Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday with Rev. Steve Birch officiating.
Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery.
