John Edward "Ed" Cain

John Edward "Ed" Cain, 90, of Brookston died Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at St. Mary Healthcare Center in Lafayette.

He was born in Round Grove on October 11, 1913. He married Charlotte B. Halsema at St. Bridgets Catholic Church, Barrydale on December 31, 1942.

He graduated from Gilboa Township High School in 1931.

He was a grain and livestock farmer, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church of Otterbein.

He is a former member and charter member of the Serra Club of Lafayette.

He received the White County Farm Homestead Award and Herald Journal Farm Family Award in the 1980 Profile in Agriculture.

He is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Oxford Catholic Cemetery.

He enjoyed farming, sports, telling old stories and spending time with his grandchildren.

Other survivors include sons Dennis (Diana) Cain of Wolcott, Joseph (Gail) Cain of Brookston, Harold "Lou" (Juli) Cain of Broken Arrow, OkIa., Anthony "Tony" (Michelle) Cain of Brookston, Martin "Marty" (Cathy) Cain of Noblesville, Walter (Nancy) Cain of Oceanside, Calif, and Matthew "Matt" (Laura) Cain of Broken Arrow, Okla.; daughter-in-law Ann Cain of Wolcott; brothers Jim Cain of Lafayette, Stephen (Jean) Cain of Brookston; sisters Rose Rardon of Lafayette and Mary (Robert) Datzman of Fowler; 24 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Sons Donnie Cain, Neil Cain, Sam Cain, infant daughter, two infant sons, four brothers and three sisters are deceased.

Funeral services were at St. Charles Catholic Church, Otterbein. Burial was at Oxford Catholic Cemetery. Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home, Brookston was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made for masses or to the charity of the donor's choice.
