Jason I. Brandt, 81, Chalmers, died Friday, Sept. 22, in his home. He had been in failing health three years.
He was born Oct. 10, 1913, in Lucerne to Russell and Olive Batty Brandt. He moved from Lucerne to Chalmers, when he was 4 years old. He graduated from Chalmers High School in 1931 and attended Purdue University.
He was married May 19, 1958, to Jo Kaiser, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. and she survives. He was a First Lieutenant with the 276th Engineer Combat Battalion in World War II, serving in central Europe.
He was a engineer for the Indiana Highway Department and head of maintenance for the LaPorte District from 1938-1944. He owned Chalmers Lumber Company from 1945 until he retired in 1980.
He was a member of Chalmers Community Church, a member and past commander of Chalmers American Legion and a member of Brookston Masonic Lodge. He served eight years as Big Creek Trustee, was sexton for Chalmers Community Cemetery and was a former Frontier School Board member.
Surviving with his wife are four nieces and four nephews.
Services were Monday at 11 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. William Henderson officiating.
Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery where graveside military rites were conducted by Chalmers American Legion.
