Margaret L. Voyles Bowsher

We have received word of the death of Margaret Louise Voyles Bowsher, 85, of Saucier, Mississippi, formerly of Monticello, who died Tuesday, April 13. 2004, in Mississippi.

She was born April 1, 1919, to Merle Voyles of Salem and Lois Giles Voyles of Brookston. She married Ben Bowsher in 1938.

They had been married 52 years at the time of his death in 1990.

She was a graduate of Brookston High School, Class of 1937.

She moved with her family to Monticello in 1949 from the South Bend/Granger area.

Prior to living with her daughter Barbara and her husband, she and Ben resided at their home in Nokomis, Fla. They moved from Monticello in 1975 where they maintained a marina and home on Lake Freeman and a farm on Hanawalt Road.

They were members of the Pine Shores Presbyterian Church in Sarasota, Fla.

She was a proponent of the arts and encouraged her children to have musical and artistic knowledge. She was actively involved in community organizations as well as a homemaker.

She was a past-president of the P.T.A. of the Granger (Indiana) School District.

When White County built its hospital, she was one of the first nursing assistants hired. Later, she trained as a surgical technician. She was a licensed hair dresser and had a beauty shop at their marina on Lake Freeman.

Surviving are daughters, Barbara (Joe) Kallaher of Perkinston, Miss., and Beverly (Dale) Johnson of Forth [sic] Worth, Texas; sons, Richard of Fort Worth, and Bruce of Logansport; a half-brother Wayne Voyles of Salem; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned at the Pine Shores Presbyterian Church in Sarasota on May 1, for family and friends.
