Arlys Jean Downey Bowers, 74, of North Judson, a former Buffalo resident died Monday, June 2, 2003, at her residence.

She was born in Buffalo on June 26, 1928, to Homer Ray and Mary Renwick Downey. She married John C. Bowers in Buffalo on June 18, 1949. He died June 21, 2000.

She had been employed as a medical transcriptionist in a doctor's office.

She lived in North Judson for 39 years.

Survivors include daughters, Janet E. (Larry) Wilde of North Judson, Arlys Joanne (Russell) Anderson of Bedford, Iowa and Judi (Jim) Pingel of Knox, a son, John (Nancy) Bowers of Knox, sisters, Margaret (Forrest) Peterson of Valparaiso and Joyce (Clyde) Tribbett of Buffalo; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Sisters Janet Downey, Carol Kestle, Eleanor Deckard and Kathlyn Amey and brothers Homer and Max Downey are deceased.

Services and burial were held in North Judson, with Braman and Bailey Funeral Home in charge.

Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice of LaPorte County or the Bible Baptist Church at Knox.
